my body is an etching

My Body is An Etching explores everyday actions that are indelibly etched into bodies of knowledge.

As we perform movement everyday we assume a kind of expertise or mastery over our bodies. We assume that our actions will be recreated or faithfully reproduced from the base etching of experience.

And yet, each day, we awaken to a body that is subtly different to the body of previous days, marked by living, breathing, thinking, experiencing. And in their turn, these experiences also leave their mark.

The film was created with community in Dunedin NZ, during my 2007 Caroline Plummer Community Dance Fellowship with the support of the Plummer Family and Otago University.
