FINE LINES CLASSES AND PROJECTS
Fine Lines is a group of committed, mature dance artists, based at Dancehouse or Elevation Dance Studios, Melbourne. Established by in 2013, Fine Lines is intergenerational (ages range from late 30's to 70's, with the majority between 50-70 years) who engage physically, critically and creatively in contemporary dance practice and performance making. Fine Lines challenges dancers to be present in the bodies they have now, to create powerful and innovative work; to challenge stereotypes and expectations about what older dancers can do.
A bit about our training:
Fine Lines focuses on inclusion and developing a pedagogy where every body has equal access to movement propositions. While many Fine Lines dancers were professional dancers or professionally trained, many others come from diverse movement backgrounds such as yoga, pilates, creative dance, improvisation, physical theatre and circus.
Classes develop skills that all dancers need: proprioception, kinesthetic and spatial awareness, balance, control, agility, articulation, flexibility, co-ordination, strength, endurance, memory, musicality, creative expression and artistry, while pushing our dancers creatively to discover, invent or interpret ideas.
Fine Lines CLASS
Fine Lines is a community of people who engage in contemporary dance practices that challenge, inspire and positively nourish them.
In 2024 Fine Lines Friday classes continue.
Due to the increasing size of Friday morning class we trialed a longer 2-hour class in the last 2 weeks of Term 1, arranged in a manner that there was enough room and time for each person and activity. In Term 2 2024, we will continue with Friday class 10-12noon. For those who must leave at 11.30am, a suitable exit point will be built into the class.
Classes are at an intermediate level and work for awareness, strength, balance, coordination, musicality, memory, creativity and artistry. We use varied styles and approaches such as improvisation, contemporary dance, ballet basics, kinesiology and other somatic techniques.

Fine Lines Foundations starts on Tuesdays in Term 1 (10 - 11.30 am).
From 2024 Foundations is the entry point to all things Fine Lines, a unique philosophical and pedagogical approach to dance and dance making. Through technical contemporary movement practices and creative explorations dancers shed past dance expectation, and learn to appreciate and luxuriate in their dancing body of today. Fine Lines Foundations is the first step or a gentle continuation in your journey to develop your capacity as a mature dancer and artist as dancers and as artist. Anyone from Fridays may attend, but this class essentially takes its time to drill down into the FL philosophical and pedagogical approach to dance and dance making.

Fees: $15 per class if paying for the term; $20 casual attendance.
Please note that for safe dance reasons, in order to participate in Fine Lines productions or special opportunities, dancers must engage regularly in either Friday or Tuesday classes.
